McConnellsville Book Club aids hungry

Posted

MCCONNELLSVILLE — Seven students in the fourth grade Book Club at McConnellsville Elementary School helped collect 626 non-perishable food and toiletry items and $50 in TOPS grocery store gift cards for Camden Food Pantry.

Children read a book by Katherine Applegate called, “Crenshaw,” about a boy and his family who struggled with food insecurity and homelessness, and decided to help people in their own community facing the same problems.

With the guidance of their school librarian, Shelley Malenowski, they hung posters and made announcements urging fellow students and school staff to bring in items to donate for Project Crenshaw: Food for Families.
