Mary Elizabeth Lauber, 89, of Rome passed away peacefully on January 1, 2019. She was born on July 14, 1929 in Norwich, NY, the daughter of Walter and Ercilla Cole Hynard. Mary grew up in Hamilton, NY before moving to Oneida and graduated from Oneida High School in 1947. She married Alfred Lauber on August 24, 1957 in the Oneida First Presbyterian Church. He passed away on August 2, 1983. Before marriage she had worked for Mastercraft and Oneida Limited. Mary enjoyed bird watching, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, dock sitting at Lake Tekeni and her many pets through the years, but especially time spent with her family. She was very fond of her childhood years in Hamilton.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynda and James Quinn, Evansville IN and Cathleen and James Opperman, Oneida; a son, Eric Lauber, Rome; grandchildren Ryan (Samantha) Wagner, Joseph (Jessica) Wagner, Amanda (Joseph) Burdick and Andrew (Shannon) Opperman; six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Melvin Hynard and Walter Hynard Jr.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Brookdale Memory Care and Sitrin Long Term Care - Magnolia House for their compassionate and loving care given to Mary.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 5, at 10 a.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday, January 4th from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mary’s memory to the Rome Humane Society, 6247 Lamphear Rd., Rome NY 13440.
