Marquee Cinemas to remain open during phased upgrade, company says

Marquee Cinemas of New Hartford remains open with five auditoriums in use during its renovation, according the parent company of the 14-screen theater.

Construction has begun on renovations with a completion target for May, according to exhibitor Marquee Cinemas of Beckley, West Virginia and PGA Investments of New York.

The work is being done in phases. Phase one, expected to be completed in mid-March, will include studios one through six and conversion of auditoriums seven and eight to large-format Marquee Extreme Cinemas auditoriums with a floating screen and Dolby Atmos sound.

Phase two will follow with work on auditoriums nine through 14 and give a new contemporary color palate for the lobby and common areas as well as digital displays, new wall coverings, carpet and interior and exterior paint. When completed, all auditoriums will have over-sized electric-powered recliners with armrests, cup holders and an elevated footrest.

In addition, the theater is adding reserved seating in which moviegoers may pick their seats either online at the box office or at Marquee’s ticketing kiosk.

“The new upgrades will offer patrons a premium experience not currently offered in the market,” said said Marquee Cinemas Marketing Director Robin Shumate. “We want the newly renovated Marquee Cinemas to be a welcome retreat for guests to relax and feel right at home as they enjoy a movie.”
