Man dies from injuries in Herkimer County crash
GERMAN FLATTS — A 25-year-old man from North Carolina was killed when his car drove into the path of an oncoming box truck in Herkimer County Tuesday evening, according to the New York State Police.
Troopers said Keith R. Jornov was southbound on Washington Street in German Flatts at about 6:11 p.m. when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Route 5S.Troopers said Jornov's 2018 Toyota Yaris entered the highway right into the path of a 2022 Mack box truck, driven by Michael L. Scarafile, 37, of Utica.
The box truck hit the Toyota on the front driver's side, sending the car off the south side of the highway, troopers said. The box truck rolled onto its passenger side on the side of Route 5S.
Jornov was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities stated. Scarafile was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation, troopers said.
