Man rescued from swampy, wooded area

An adult male, whose name and age was not released, was rescued out of a swampy area along Wood and Mud creeks in west Rome Friday night, according to law enforcement officials.
Police said the adult male called 9-1-1 at about 7:20 p.m. claiming that he was lost and stuck in a tree in the wooded area behind Pizza Hut off Erie Boulevard West. Police said the man had been lost for about five hours.
Multiple officers responded and used their voices and flashlights to eventually find the man, far off any known trail, authorities stated.
Patrolman Zackery White waded into knee-deep water to reach the stuck man and help him safely back to dry land.
The Rome Fire Department assisted with their all-terrain rescue vehicle and the man was safely brought out of the woods. The man was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
