WEST TURIN — A Sauquoit man was killed when his snowmobile overturned and crashed into a tree in Lewis County late Thursday night, according to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said John P. Jones, 52, of Sauquoit, was riding southwest on Trail C4F on North Road at about 11:40 p.m. when his 2022 Ski-Doo went off the west side of the trail, overturned and crashed into a tree. Several witnesses to the crash rushed to Jones's aid and performed CPR but could not revive him.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene once rescue personnel arrived, authorities stated.

The crash remains under investigation.
