Man hospitalized following collision with tractor in Steuben

TOWN OF STEUBEN — A Rome man was hospitalized after his pickup truck collided with a tractor on Fuller Road Wednesday morning.

Sheriff’s deputies said Gregory A. Mattacola, 51, was westbound on Fuller at about 8:50 a.m. when he attempted to pass a tractor being operated by Joseph O. Burkert, 35, of Ava. Deputies said Burkert was in the process of making a right turn into a driveway when the tractor collided with Mattacola’s 2017 Ford pickup truck.

The collision caused the pickup to overturn into a ditch. Deputies said Mattacola was treated at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was also ticketed for following too closely and failure to yield, authorities stated. He is scheduled to appear in court.
