Man hospitalized after Augusta crash
AUGUSTA — A southern New York man was hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash at Berry Farm and Wells Gifford roads Saturday afternoon, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies said Harold Swartwout, 62, of Hancock, Delaware County, was eastbound on Berry Farm around 3:30 p.m. Saturday when he stopped at the stop sign intersection with Wells Gifford. Deputies said Swartwout then failed to yield to another vehicle, and his 2013 Volkswagen collided with a 2011 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Tyler Shantal, 16, of Sherrill.
Swartwout had to be extricated from his vehicle by rescue personnel and he was treated at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica for injuries to his left side, authorities said. Neither Shantal or either passenger from either vehicle was injured, deputies noted. Swartwout was ticketed for failure to yield and is scheduled to appear in town court.
