Man gets 15 days in jail, community service for beating horse to death

TOWN OF TRENTON — A 42-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 days in county jail for beating his horse to death with a baseball bat.

Marvin Miller, of Trenton, was sentenced in Trenton Town Court Monday to 15 days in jail, was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and was ordered to serve 80 hours of community service on a charge of overdriving, torturing and injuring an animal, authorities said. Miller pleaded guilty to the charge in July.

Authorities said Miller beat his own horse with a baseball bat on the side of Korber Road on the morning of May 2.

Authorities said Miller was attempting to get the animal to comply. Authorities said Miller struck the animal several times behind the neck with the bat.

The horse was found dead on the side of the road and Miller was located and taken into custody.
