Man faces burglary charge in theft from New Hartford gas station


NEW HARTFORD — A break-in at the Mirabito Gas Station on Oneida Street has led to charges against a 20-year-old man, according to law enforcement officials.

Police said a burglary alarm at the Mirabito store was tripped at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, and responding officers found the front door smashed in.

While searching around the building, police said they found 20-year-old Daniel Winn, of
New Hartford, hiding behind a dumpster.

Police said Winn attempted to take off running and he was taken into custody a short time later. Police said they found stolen items on Winn’s person, along with a pair of brass knuckles and a small amount of marijuana.

Winn is charged with one count each of third-degree burglary, a class D felony, third-degree mischief, a class E felony, fourth-degree possession of a weapon, petty larceny and unlawful possession of marijuana, authorities stated. Winn is scheduled to appear in court.
