Additional sex abuse charges have been lodged against a Rome man after three more underage victims were discovered, according to law enforcement officials.
Anthony J. Melise, 37, of Rome, was taken into custody in September, accused of having sexual contact with a 10-year-old girl over a period of time in the spring and early summer of this year, according to the county Child Advocacy Center. The case remained under investigation, and authorities said three more child victims were discovered, ranging in age from 6 to 15.
On Wednesday, authorities said Melise was indicted by a county grand jury on one count each of predatory sexual assault against a child, a class A-2 felony, first-degree criminal sexual act, a class B felony, attempted first-degree criminal sexual act, a class C felony, endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of third-degree sexual abuse and three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, a class D felony.
An indictment is a formal charge made against a person by a grand jury. It does not establish guilt or remove the presumption of innocence. Melise remains in county jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
He is scheduled to appear in County Court.
