A 25-year-old man taken into custody for a domestic dispute Thursday evening is facing additional charges after law enforcers said he used his police station telephone call to ring up his victim.
Police said Koren A. Wright, of Holland Avenue, Utica, choked a woman during a domestic dispute on West Garden Street at about 7:48 p.m. Thursday. Police said Wright was taken into custody and brought to the Justice Building for booking.
Once in custody, police said Wright was given the opportunity to use the telephone, which is typically used to contact an attorney or family members. Police said Wright instead called the woman he is accused of choking and tried to convince her to not pursue the criminal complaint against him.
Wright is charged with third-degree assault and criminal obstruction of breathing for the domestic dispute, authorities said, and second-degree coercion and tampering with a witness for the telephone call. He is scheduled to appear in City Court.
