Man convicted of raping girl gets 14 years in state prison
ROME — A Rome man convicted of raping a preteen girl has been sentenced to 14 years in state prison, according to Oneida County Court officials.
Jerry Studer, 58, was sentenced by Judge Robert L. Bauer on Friday to 14 years in prison on a charge of first-degree rape, with 15 years of post-release supervision, court officials said.
According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Studer raped a girl under the age of 13 over the course of the past two years in Rome. Law enforcement was notified in June and he was located and taken into custody in September.
Studer worked as a custodian in the Rome City School District, and authorities said the rape was not connected to his position with the schools.
