A 3-year-old child suffered a broken leg after being tossed onto furniture by a Utica man, according to the county Child Advocacy Center.
Investigators said Desmond Anthony, 35, of Utica, had been flipping the child in the morning of Sept. 12, with the girl landing haphazardly on furniture in the home. While landing on some furniture, investigators said the 3-year-old suffered a broken femur in her right leg.
The girl was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Hartford and underwent surgery, authorities said. The CAC was notified and an investigation was launched. Anthony was taken into custody on Monday.
Anthony is charged with one count each of third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors, authorities said. He was arraigned in Utica City Court and was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to reappear in court.
