UTICA — A 23-year-old man is accused of threatening Utica City Codes enforcement officers on Whitesboro Street Wednesday morning, according to the Utica Police Department.

Police said three codes officers were conducting their official duties in the 1100 block of Whitesboro St. at about 11 a.m. Wednesday when 23-year-old Robert Schmidt came out of one of the houses and started threatening them. Police said Schmidt pulled out a shotgun and started waving it in the air as he threatened the codes officers.

The officers fled the area and called the authorities. Police said Schmidt and the shotgun were found in the residence and he was taken into custody.

Schmidt is charged with two counts of second-degree menacing and one count of fourth-degree possession of a weapon, police said. He is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court. An extreme risk protection order was also filed against Schmidt, authorities noted.
