ROME — A 57-year-old man has been charged with shoplifting T-shirts from Dollar General, according to the Rome Police Department.

Police said Brian M. Wilkes, of Rome, grabbed eight T-shirts, worth a little more than $50 total, from the Dollar General on Black River Boulevard at about 2:30 p.m. Sept. 3 and fled the store. An employee saw the bulge in Wilkes’s own shirt and called 911, following him out of the store.

Wilkes was taken into custody a short distance away. Police said Wilkes is charged with one count of petty larceny. He is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court.
