Man accused of posing as sheriff’s deputy

TOWN OF WESTMORELAND — A Utica man is accused of posing as a sheriff’s deputy while on the telephone with his ex-girlfriend, according to local law enforcement officials.

Sheriff’s deputies said Brandon Hanrahan, 33, called his ex-girlfriend at work in the Town of Westmoreland, claiming to be a member of the Sheriff’s Road Patrol.

Deputies said Hanrahan’s ex has an order of protection filed against him, and he is not to make contact.

Authorities said Hanrahan turned himself in at the Sheriff’s Office on Thursday.

Hanrahan is charged with one count each of first-degree criminal impersonation and first-
degree contempt, both felonies, deputies stated.

He is scheduled to appear in court, the law enforcement officials added.
