UTICA — A Utica man is accused of threatening to blow up the Oneida County Office Building and shoot the people inside, according to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's deputies said Jacqwey Yates, 25, was on the phone with an employee in the Department of Family and Community Services at about 10:30 a.m. Friday when he became dissatisfied with his service and started making threats over the phone. Deputies said Yates threatened to go to the building, shoot the people inside and blow it up.

Deputies responded to the scene and obtained pictures of Yates — and he was soon spotted entering the building through the security checkpoint. Yates was detained and was found to be carrying a jack knife, authorities stated.

Yates is charged with one count each of making a threat of mass harm and aggravated harassment, deputies said. He is scheduled to appear in court.

Authorities said that the building and its occupants were never placed in harm.
