Man accused of leading state police on chase in stolen vehicle

TOWN OF SCHUYLER — Accused of leading state police on a chase in a stolen vehicle Saturday night, law enforcement officials said a 22-year-old man snatched the car at gunpoint during a proposed sale.

State police said Omarie J. Trim, 22, of 512 Herkimer Road, Utica, met with another person on Newport Road in Schuyler at about 7:40 p.m. Saturday, who was looking to sell their car via Facebook Marketplace. When Trim arrived, troopers said he pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded both the keys and the title to the vehicle.

Trim fled in the vehicle and the victim called 9-1-1, authorities said. Responding troopers spotted the car and gave chase, until they said Trim pulled over and fled on foot. Multiple officers responded to the scene and began a search, eventually locating Trim at his residence on Herkimer Road in the City of Utica.

While state police were setting up a perimeter around the residence, they said Trim attempted to flee through an upstairs window. He was confronted by K-9 officers and retreated back into the home, troopers said. Trim eventually surrendered.

State police said they recovered a loaded revolver.

Trim is charged with one count of second-degree robbery, a class C felony, troopers said. He was arraigned in court and was sent to Herkimer County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond. He is scheduled to reappear in court.
