A 22-year-old man is accused of imprisoning his parents and several children during a dispute at the Dewitt Clinton Apartments early Wednesday morning, according to law enforcement officials.
Police said Colton Shaffer, of South James Street, went to his parents’ apartment on Ann Street at about 4:53 a.m. Wednesday looking to see his child.
When Shaffer was denied, police said he started damaging property inside the apartment.
Police said Shaffer had a knife at one point and held the people inside against their will.
Law enforcement responded to the apartment and Shaffer would not let them in.
A maintenance worked provided police with a key and they made entry, where Shaffer refused to comply, authorities stated. He was eventually taken into custody. No one was harmed.
Police said the parents were watching over three children inside the home at the time, one of whom was Shaffer’s child. Police said there is an order of protection filed against Shaffer on behalf of his child.
Shaffer is charged with four counts of second-degree imprisonment, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count each of third-degree menacing and second-degree contempt, police stated. He is scheduled to appear in City Court.
