Madison County restaurant voucher program in full swing

WAMPSVILLE — Area residents are invited to get a taste of Madison County — and, in the process support local restaurants and workers and also double their money.

“We know the past year has been difficult for our local businesses and our residents,” said Madison County Board Chairman John M. Becker. “The Madison Local Eats program is just a small way we can help out our restaurants and at the same time help out our residents.”

A host of Madison County restaurants are participating in “Madison Local Eats,” a gift card matching program.

Individuals can register for vouchers for various rsestaurants in the county. The effort is a program from Buy Madison County in which customers can go to to claim vouchers to the restaurants of their choice. That voucher will be for either a $50 or $100 gift card. Then the customer will take that voucher to the restaurant they selected, pay half of the amount, and receive in exchange a gift card for the entire amount. The other half of the gift card will be reimbursed by Madison County to the restaurant.

The Madison County reimbursement comes from the $13.7 million the county received as part of the federal American Rescue Plan Act.

Anyone is eligible to claim a voucher, and people do not have to be residents of Madison County, program officials said. The promotion only runs for one week, or until supply sells out, officials said, adding that vouchers must be redeemed for a gift card by Sunday, July 25, 2021.
