CAZENOVIA — A Madison County man charged in a motor vehicle crash that killed two people has pleaded guilty to multiple charges and has been sentenced to at least four years in state prison according to the Madison County District Attorney's Office.

Justin Haines, 35, of New Woodstock, pleaded guilty before Judge Patrick O'Sullivan on Thursday to two counts of second-degree manslaughter and one count of first-degree vehicular manslaughter, officials said. He was also sentenced on Thursday to four to 12 years in state prison, authorities stated.

Investigators said Haines was eastbound at a high rate of speed and under the influence of drugs at 12:30 p.m. July 20 on Route 92 in Cazenovia. Authorities said Haines passed several vehicles on the shoulder before he lost control of his 2004 GMC Yukon and crashed head-on with a westbound 2015 Ford Focus in the oncoming lane.

Driver Deborah Sorrentino, 69, of Syracuse, was killed in the crash, and passenger Augusta Sorrentino, 92, of Manlius, died from her injuries at the hospital, authorities stated.

According to the DA's Office, Haines was speeding at roughly 90 to 100 mph, and was under the influence of methamphetamine, amphetamine and THC.
