NEW BERLIN — The ninth round of the 50th anniversary Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship will be at Unadilla on Saturday, Aug. 13, for the Unadilla National. The off-road motorcycle racing series is a 12-round campaign that ends Labor Day weekend and visits 10 states. With a history that dates back to the origin of Pro Motocross in 1972, the 36th running of the Unadilla National will take place at Unadilla MX in New Berlin.

The track’s layout follows the countryside, using natural terrain create a fast and demanding circuit.

“Unadilla is vintage motocross and even with the modern progression of both athletes and motorcycles, it remains as daunting and challenging as ever. A win at Unadilla is a bucket list item for any racer,” the pro series noted in its announcement.

Practice and qualifying starts at 8 a.m. Aug. 13, with opening ceremonies to follow at 12:30. At 1 p.m., it’s first motos for the 250 and 450 Classes. Second motos for both classes start at 3 p.m.

A pair of international riders are defending champions in both the 450 Class and 250 Class for the first time in history. Frenchman Dylan Ferrandis is the third European rider in the 450 Class to serve as reigning champion, while Australian Jett Lawrence is the first defending titleholder in the 250 Class from his home country. But there will be New York natives trying to make their presence felt, including Monroe’s Justin Barcia, Cold Spring Harbor’s Justin Cooper and Bayside’s Nick Romano.

Tickets are $55, $25 for children younger than 12. Pit passes are $25 for 9 a.m. to noon.
