Lowell Church celebrates hamlet history with ice cream social

LOWELL — The Lowell United Methodist Church recently hosted an ice cream social that featured Pete Rose and Sue Smith performing songs like, “I Saw The Light,” “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” and ended with the Rev. Frederick Bailey, pastor, accompanying him on, “A Closer Walk With Thee.”

For the 35 people who took part, it was a bright sunny afternoon of fellowship.

“It’s nice that we can offer the community a social event,” said parishioner Kyle Eychner, “I hope it will interest people in the church.”

Several of the attendees were lifelong residents of Lowell, and they shared their memories of the hamlet’s history.

Mike Froio performed his popular magic tricks for the children and Stewart’s provided ice cream sundaes for everyone.

“Jesus loved food, he would have loved ice cream, and he was present,” Pastor Bailey said.

“He would have loved the fellowship,” his wife Anne-Louise Bailey added.

Services at the Lowell United Methodist Church are held Sundays at 9:30 a.m. The church is located at 5840 Lowell Road.
