Local unemployment rate dips to 3%, state stats show
The unemployment rate in the Utica-Rome MSA declined from 3.6% in November 2021 to 3% in November 2022, according to a report released Tuesday by the state Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Local unemployment rate dips to 3%, state stats show
The unemployment rate in the Utica-Rome MSA declined from 3.6% in November 2021 to 3% in November 2022, according to a report released Tuesday by the state Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The unemployment rate was 2.6% in October.
Change in non-farm jobs since November 2022
For the 12-month period ending November 2022, the non-farm job count in the Utica-Rome MSA increased 2,400, or 2%, to 123,900. Private sector employment rose 1,500, or 1.6 percent, to 93,100.
Job gains were posted in:
- Government, an increase (plus) 900;
- Leisure and hospitality, plus 400;
- Education and health services, plus 600;
- Natural resources, mining and construction, plus 100;
- Manufacturing, plus 100;
- Other services, plus 200;
- Professional and business services, plus 100.
County rankings
- Oneida County ranked at 32 of 62 counties in the state for its unemployment rate which was 2.9% in November, an increase from 2.6% in October.
- Madison County ranked at 19 with an unemployment rate of 2.6%, an increase from 2.3% in October.
- Herkimer County ranked 48 at 3.3%, an increase from 2.7% in October; and
- Lewis County ranked 42 at 3.2%, an increase from 2.3% in October, according to the state Bureau of Labor Statistics.
