Local swimmers and divers compete at states

ITHACA — New Hartford senior Hassan Abdelwahed was first in the C final of the 100 breaststroke in 59.51 seconds during the state swimming and diving meet held Friday and Saturday at Ithaca College. That was good for 14th overall.

Abdelwahed was also part of the New Hartford 200 medley relay along with Mateo Ripa, Arman Tresnjo and Matthew French that finished in 1:40.01, which was 16th. The school’s 200 freestyle relay team composed of those four swimmers was 19th with a time of 1:29.86.

Oneida senior Andrew Hicks finished second in the C final of the 200-yard individual medley in 21.72 seconds. That put him in 22nd place overall.

Two local divers competed in the 11-dive event on Friday. Rome Free Academy’s Will D’Agata finished 23rd out of 32 divers. He made eight dives, missing the cut to compete in all 11. Jaycob Jones of Holland Patent was 32nd.
