OLD FORGE — The Old Forge Library and Town of Webb Historical Association are hosting Local History and Stories, a series featuring a different presentation and discussion on a variety of interesting local subjects (primarily of historical significance),  Thursdays at 5 p.m. throughout July and August.

On July 28, the series will feature author and historian Ed Pitts with a presentation on his newly published book “Beaver River Country.”  The Adirondack country he writes about is the largest undisturbed tract of forest in the entire northeastern United States. The book is a vivid portrait of this wild region, revealing how it came to be and why it survives.

Other speakers include:

  • Aug. 4 - Peg Masters: Answering the Call – the History of the Rescue Hook and Ladder Co. and the changes over the years.
  • Aug. 11 – Sue Kiesel: The Healing Power of Nature Photography
  • Aug. 18 - Tom McCabe and Phil Sanzone: Fulton Chain of Lakes Association – preserving and protecting lakes and the surrounding woodlands, streams and wetlands for over 50 years.
  • Aug. 25 - Charlie Herr: Raquette Lake Railway – the story of this railroad from its origins as a lumber railroad, to its building and the railroad stations.

The library is at 220 Crosby Blvd.
