There will be a Rome event for the Conquer Chiari Walk Across America on Saturday, Sept. 15, at Pinti Field, 200 Sixth St. While, the walk is held in Rome, walkers come from all over the greater CNY area.
Organizers are raising money to combat Chiari a neurological disorder that affects more than 300,000 people across the country. To date there is no cure for Chiari.
The primary treatment is a serious surgery which removes bone from the skull, to relieve pressure on the brain.
It is the sixth year for the Rome event, which typically attracts about 100 participants.
Registration is free; however, a $25 donation is suggested by organizers. Pre-registration can be done online at www.conquerchiari.org.
Registration on-site the day of the event will take place at 10 a.m. The walk will start at 11 a.m.
The walk’s distance is flexible, and can be done according to one’s fitness level, organizers noted. New this year, the walk area is now paved, making accessibility easier.
The event will include entertainment by Blues Brothers of Rome, food, activities, a play area, photography by A.J.K. There will be additional fund raiser items for sale, including a quilt by Dianne’s Sewing of Ilion.
