Local company awarded contract to work on C-130s

As a U.S. government and New York-designated Service-Disabled Veteran-owned New York small business, Strategic Global Aviation, LLC (SGA), has been awarded an Aircraft Maintenance Contract, including full strip and paint on their C-130 aircraft, by NASA and the Yulista Technical Services Company.

The award is based on SGA’s exceptional expertise in heavy aircraft maintenance and repair as well as the local organization’s ability to provide NASA substantial cost savings by reducing aircraft downtime and concentrating on the repairs essential for sustained safe operations of the C-130 aircraft.

Located at the former Griffiss Air Force Base (Strategic Air Command Base), Strategic Global Aviation is a commercial and military aerospace Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility. SGA’s maintenance bays, paint bay and maintenance back-shops are facilities that once
supported complex heavy maintenance operations on multiple B-52s simultaneously.

Strategic Global Aviation further intends to build on the existence of its FAA Part 145 repair station and 9001:2015 and AS 9110C Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Company certifications. This is in addition to all other necessary certifications that are required to service various types of aircraft, such as the C-130, C-5M, C-17, KC-10 and several other airframes. SGA is also a certified vendor for Lockheed Martin, L-3 Harris and CACI International.

The overall intention of Strategic Global Aviation is to take advantage of available hangar space and aviation amenities in conjunction with Oneida County and the Griffiss International Airport, with hiring impact of more than 250 employees. The availability of experienced, certified aircraft mechanics from the Central New York area, coupled with SGA’s cooperative apprenticeship program with Mohawk Valley Community College, lends a significant advantage in the competitive MRO business arena.

The NASA C-130 aircraft will arrive at 394 Hangar Road, Griffiss International Airport, at 1 p.m. Friday. A formal presentation, refreshments and maintenance facility/aircraft tours will be provided.
