CLINTON — This month, Daughter for Hire is celebrating 10 years of helping thousands of seniors safely remain independent while living in their own homes. The organization will mark the occasion on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. at its Clinton headquarters at 6 Williams St.

The public is invited to attend and a reception will follow.

What began as a small company with the founder as the only caregiver has grown to having more than 65 caregivers assisting hundreds of clients across seven counties from the Mohawk Valley to the Capital District.

“Daughter for Hire’s mission is, and always has been, to help seniors with daily tasks that allow them to remain in their homes, living safely and independently as they age in place,” the organization said in an announcement.

As a companion care service provider, Daughter for Hire assists clients with such activities as:

  • Driving to medical appointments;
  • Going grocery shopping;
  • Running errands;
  • Meal preparation;
  • Laundry and other light housekeeping; and
  • Regular reminders to ensure clients are taking their medications appropriately.

One of the most important services that caregivers provide is socialization and companionship, the organization said. “Whether it’s a trip for ice cream or a meal out; decorating for the holidays or baking cookies; going to a craft show or a farmer’s market; Daughter for Hire caregivers truly enjoy what they do to assist their clients. They go above
and beyond each and every day to ensure that their clients are happy and safe and that their families enjoy the peace of mind knowing that their loved one is being well cared for in their absence,” the organization added.

Clients can view their caregiver as a friend visiting them on a regular basis, the company said.

The Daughter for Hire office staff communicates with clients and their families regularly to keep them up-to-date on their loved ones’ care. This is especially helpful if the family lives outside the area or are not able to see their loved one as often as they would like.

Daughter for Hire officials said the company would not be what it is today without the support of their exceptional team of caregivers and staff members. “It is their enthusiasm, support, and dedication that has carried Daughter for Hire to their tenth anniversary,” the company wrote.

“We are grateful to our clients’ families for letting us assist them with the care of their loved ones, helping them remain in their homes and age in place,” said Denise Flihan, Daughter for Hire co-owner. “We understand how difficult it can be to ask for help and trust someone with the care of a family member. Their desire to help their loved ones age in place has pushed us to continuously find new and better ways to support them.”

“Our success story remains incomplete without the support of our clients. Not only have they made us a part of their lives, but also, they’ve helped us reach more people in the communities we serve,” added Daughter for Hire Co-owner and Founder Kathleen Rutishauser. “They share their experience with our company and have helped us expand our mission throughout the Mohawk Valley and the Capital District. Thank you for 10 great years serving the seniors in our community. We look forward to the next ten years…and eventually, helping the next generation of seniors to age gracefully and independently.”
