ROME, NY — Liseta Maria DeMelo (Fonseca), 59, of Rome, New York, passed away in her home on September 19, 2021, with her children by her side.

She was born in St. Michael, Azores, Portugal, on April 26, 1962, to the late Maria and Alberto DeMelo. At a young age, Liseta and her family immigrated to New Bedford, Massachusetts, where she spent the beginning of her years and then returned in her later years. She married and relocated to Germany and Rome, New York.

Liseta was a dedicated and devoted mother who made it her life’s mission to raise her daughter and sons with special needs. She triumphed over all obstacles and with every circumstance continued to excel. She enjoyed playing cards, the ID channel and especially shopping. Liseta also took great pride in her home, as well as interior design. She will be remembered as a resilient woman, who was always determined to look beyond any of life’s challenges — with a heart and soul of compassion, strength, integrity and spunk. Liseta was truly a one of a kind woman, mother, daughter, sister and friend.

Liseta is survived by her children, Brandin, Brittany, Alex-Andre and was predeceased by Edward and Stephon. Her family included her siblings, Natalie and husband, Joe Tavares, John Melo, Jose DeMelo, the late Ligia Melo and husband, Jose, Enio DeMelo, and many nieces and nephews. Her love, commitment and loyalty for her family was unparalleled.

Visiting hours are in the funeral home on Friday, September 24, 2021, from 4-7 p.m. Her funeral will be conducted on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 8 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 a.m. Interment in Rural Cemetery.
