Lewis County Cooperative Extension event to highlight American Foulbrood Disease


LOWVILLE — Cornell Cooperative Extension of Lewis County will host a presentation on American Foulbrood Disease — a highly contagious disease among bees — from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, at the Lewis County Educational Center, 7395 East Road.

Joan Mahoney, a bee expert with the state Department of Agriculture and Markets, will discuss the disease which can often kill entire colonies of bees, including:

-Sources of infection;

-How to recognize the signs of American Foulbrood Disease;

-Prevention and management; and

-What to do if you have a bee colony infected with Amercian Foulbrood Disease.
