LETTER: Trump and classified documents

So, Donald Trump declared he had no classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. Then, when a dozen boxes of them were found there in January, his lawyers declared that was all of them. But witnesses said there were more, and the FBI with a search warrant found another dozen boxes of highly classified documents in early August. Trump sycophants declared he had already de-classified all the documents found, but of course there was no record of that.

Then, Trump declared Obama had left office with far more, not understanding that Obama’s documents were all under the control of the National Archives. Republican senators like Rand Paul (KY), Ron Johnson (WI), and Marco Rubio (FL) alleged the documents found were all planted by the FBI, and that all fault lies with the deep state. Where do we find such leaders?

Now, two weeks later, we find that Trump had over 100 highly classified documents and over 10,000 other government documents which should have gone to the National Archives. Most disturbingly, there were 4 dozen empty folders marked classified. I wonder where that material went?

Attorney General Merrick Garland is faced with a difficult choice. If he does not prosecute Trump, how can he or any subsequent attorney general prosecute anyone who violates procedures for classified documents in the future? I had a Top Secret/ SCI clearance, and it is a sacred responsibility. If DOJ does not prosecute, he condones this behavior for all future presidents -- and that would be a travesty.
