LETTER: Time to end use of Native American mascots
Several recent letters to the editor have opposed ending the use of Native American mascots for high school sports teams. Unless these writers are of Native American descent, their words in my view have limited value.
I haven’t read any objections to ending this practice by any writers referencing that they are Native Americans.
If they do present a position by virtue of being Native American descent, either for or against this practice, I’d certainly listen.
Ray Halbritter from the Oneida Indian Nation has long been on record advocating for ending this practice, and I defer to his words in this case.
