LETTER: Report finds no evidence of rigged election

“Lost, but not Stolen”, a report recently released by eight senior Republicans (two senators, four judges, two lawyers) provides a detailed summary of all the claims that challenged the 2020 Presidential election. The executive summary is only four pages long and is followed with a state-by-state analysis of each court challenge and each case’s resolution. The report clearly presents these findings, all available before January 6th to congressional members, and all of which found no evidence of a “rigged election.”

Still, eight Republican senators and 139 House members voted to challenge the certification of at least one state’s electors – even after the insurrection on January 6th.  These members included NY Representatives Lee Zeldin, Chris Jacobs, Elise Stefanik and Nicole Malliotakus. Rep Claudia Tenney had not yet been seated due to delayed election results.

Had they succeeded, they would have plunged the country into a Constitutional crisis and would have given President Trump more opportunities to overturn the election. The facts were available, but they chose instead to follow Trump’s false narrative – and some – like Stefanik and Tenney continue to ignore these facts even today.

By promoting – or even just believing – that false narrative, people sow distrust in our election system that every fact-based analysis has shown to be lawful and accurate. The report concluded with the warning “if the American people lose trust that our elections are free and fair, we will lose our democracy.” Think about it – Google the report – and read it.
