LETTER: Jervis Public Library is a library reimagined
A library is a building which has books, magazines and digital media for study, research and loan. A library card, free of charge, allows the bearer to access these materials.
However, the mission of the Jervis Public Library in Rome has reimagined what a library can do to meet the needs of the community. Lisa Matte, director of the Jervis Library, was guest speaker at a recent meeting of the Lee Unity Seniors May.
“The Jervis Library is many things to many people” according to Mrs. Matte. Books, magazines, and movies can now be downloaded to your phone or computer. Also available for loan are board games, sports equipment, snowshoes, fishing poles, metal detectors, blood pressure monitor and passes to local attractions such as zoos and state parks.
Upcoming events at the library are regularly advertised in this newspaper for people of all ages. On the monthly calendar are informational presentations as well as Tai Chi, Art, Mahjong, book club, game night and so on. This is a library reimagined for today’s world and a treasure for Rome and surrounding areas.
The vision of this director and staff for the library is truly remarkable. Get your library card today and you can only imagine what you may learn.
