LETTER: A great divide in nation

When we recite the Pledge of Allegiance we say “one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” Why is the Pledge of Allegiance not spoken very often today? In my opinion it’s because we are not the one Nation we once was.

The Pledge of Allegiance states that we are one nation under God. Today we are not that one Nation under God that we once was. Many of the things happening in our Nation today would not be happening if we were one Nation under God.

We also cite the term indivisible which means we are unable to be divided or separated. There is a great divide in our nation today. I am sad to say that the biggest thing that divides our nation today is whether we have the right to kill innocent babies by abortion or not.

The term liberty means the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one’s way of life, behavior, or political views. In my opinion this meaning of liberty is becoming less of a way of life for us today. Think about all of the unnecessary mandates that we faced during COVID. What about the restrictions that are put on us about what we can or cannot say about certain things today?

The term Justice means the quality of being fair and reasonable with the administration of the law or authority. Our justice system is becoming so corrupt today that there is no punishment for committing crime. When a person gets arrested they are given a slap on the hand and let go free to commit more crime while the victim has to suffer.

It is time that we stop being hypocrites when we do say the Pledge of Allegiance and start living by what it says.
