UTICA — The Utica Zoo have added a twist to Friday Late Nights for the 2019 summer season. Starting Friday, July 12, visitors will be able to have access to the Utica Zoo on Friday evenings until 7 p.m. Plus, those visitors 21 and over will be able to enjoy an ice cold beer or glass of wine in the zoo’s newly formed Beer Garden.

The Friday Late Night series “is perfect for wrapping up a long week with co-workers or kicking off a fun-filled weekend with the family,” zoo officials said.

Visitors can enjoy food from Polly’s by O’Connors, musical performances on select dates, yard games, animal walkabouts and presentations from Utica Zoo staff and docents, and regular access to the zoo for two extra hours.

“All of us are really jazzed up about starting our Friday Late Night series for the summer!”, said Mark Simon, marketing coordinator for the Utica Zoo. “By offering a great way to kick off the weekend for our visitors, we hope the community will take advantage of our extended hours and spend some time at the Zoo. Plus, being able to offer beer and wine service is something we have been trying to accomplish for some time, so the kick off to this series is a great new addition to the events we already offer throughout the year.”

Beer and wine will only be available on Friday evenings from 4 to 7 p.m. to guests over age 21 and proper ID is required.

Member Appreciation Night

On Monday, July 15, the Utica Zoo will hold its annual Member Appreciation Night and Annual Meeting from 5-7 p.m. The members only event is held every year as a way to show appreciation to Utica Zoo members, as well as offer members an extended evening admission, along with live music, food, animal presentations, and a keynote address before reviewing the prior year’s highlights and performance.

This year, the Utica Zoo welcomes Remsen Social Club to provide entertainment, while The Association of Zoos and Aquariums President and CEO, Dan Ashe, will be making the trek from AZA Headquarters in Maryland as the keynote speaker.

This is the first year the Utica Zoo has been AZA-accredited since 2005.

Members are encouraged to RSVP to info@uticazoo.org as soon as possible. Not-yet-members can become members by visiting uticazoo.org/membership and can also RSVP by e-mailing info@uticazoo.org. This event is open to members only.

“Having Mr. Ashe attend our Member Appreciation Night event is a great honor for us in the Zoological community,” said the Zoo’s Marketing Coordinator Mark Simon. “AZA is the gold standard of excellence in the Zoo and Aquarium industry, and to have the head of AZA come all the way to New York from Maryland to deliver a keynote speech and tour our Zoo is a wonderful bookend to all the hard work we have put in over the past few years. I think our staff, board, and members really deserve this recognition of our commitment to excellence.”
