LACROSSE ROUNDUP: RFA girls end regular season with a win
The Rome Free Academy girls lacrosse team beat Syracuse at home 9-2 Friday in non-legue play to finish its regular season.
The Black Knights had already wrapped a Tri-Valley League title with an 8-0 record. The win Friday gave the team an 11-5 overall mark headed into the postseason.
Shannen Calandra, Isabella Sanzone and Drew Kopek scored twice each for RFA. Isibeal McMahon scored once and had an assist. RFA goaltender Hannah Lowder stopped seven shots in the win.
Syracuse got a goal each from Shannon Smith and Cecilia Witherel.
Spartans fall in finale
The New Hartford girls lacrosse team suffered a 20-5 loss at Indian River Friday to end its regular season in non-league play. Indian River led 15-1 at the half.
Sophia Campola scored twice and had an assist in the loss. Bella Kolb, Kylie Thomas and Natalia Viola all scored once each.
Emily Picolla started in goal and made 10 saves on 28 shots in 41 minutes. Alannah Hole allowed two goals on two shots in nine minutes in goal.
Statistics for Indian River were not submitted.
New Hartford ended the regular season 6-10.
Three hat tricks fuel Spartans
The New Hartford boys lacrosse team got hat tricks from Dan Friedel, Dylan Zayacheck and Mateo Ripa in a 13-11 win at Watertown Friday in non-league play.
The Spartans also got two goals from Sawyer Kramer and one each from Jarrett Sherman and Sean Albrecht.
Walker Williams made 14 saves in net for the win.
Watertown’s Jack Clough also had a hat trick. Nico Spaziani had two goals and three assists. Jack Adams and Jack Rathbun scored twice each. Antonio Marzano and Kyan Combs also scored a goal each. Patrick Duah had 14 saves for Watertown.
