ROME — It may have been a little gloomy on Wednesday, but that didn’t put a damper on Kris-Tech’s Hungry for Education event at the copper wire manufacturer’s Rome headquarters.

More than 40 cars were lined up before the event, each bringing bags of food to support the Rome Salvation Army. In return, parents, grandparents, and guardians were given backpacks filled with school supplies, including folders, colored pencils, tissues, notebooks, and even a water bottle.

Throughout the day, vehicles streamed through the event to drop off food and pick up school supplies. Students also received other school items based on their grade. Younger students were given a pair of headphones, along with COVID tests donated by State Sen. Joseph Griffo’s office. Older students were given pens and calculators.

“We love this community,” Kris-Tech’s HR Director, Wendy Calabrese, said. “That’s why we believe so strongly in giving back to the community where we work, live, and play. We love being able to give back and help those in need, especially when school shopping is more expensive than ever.”
