WHITESTOWN — This past weekend, a team led by skip Donald Knapp won the Utica Curling Club's in-club Calder, Conley, Hurd Mixed Bonspiel.

Seventeen teams competed. Team Knapp won the A event and was presented with the Calder Trophy.

Knapp's team was Marena Taverna, Donna Caleo and Bill Dietrick. The runner up team was skip Tim Crofton and Ann Stuhlman, Tim Limitie and Amy Limitie.

The B event winner was skip Joyce Shaffer with Scott Carter, Julie Carter and Ben Gaetano.

The C event winner was skip Jason Golubski and Audrey Foote, Eric Krumme and Melissa Foote.

The winner of the D event was skip Dale Jones and Carol Jones, Peter Dawes and Deana Hansen-Danis.

The club will host the 137th Mitchell International Bonspiel, which includes 36 teams from the U.S. and Canada, Thursday through Sunday. The Mitchell Medal was donated by industrialist Alexander Mitchell to the Grand National Curling Club, an organization of 75 curling clubs located primarily along the east coast. Competition for the medal started in 1885, with the Utica Curling Club hosting since 1910.
