Kirkland Bird Club to offer hike

The Kirkland Bird Club is offering a “rain date” walk to make up for a gathering that was cancelled on May 22 due to inclement weather:

• Tuesday, May 29: Nelson Robinson will lead a trip to Wood Creek Trail on Hogsback Road. This is in the western part of the Rome Sand Plains.

The group will meet at the McDonalds on Erie Boulevard West at 10 a.m. Please bring bug spray or towelettes, bottle of water, binoculars, and shoes/boots for hiking. It will take about 2-3 hours to do the hike.

For those who want to drive directly there, a map is available online at: . The site is #3 on the map.

As an added attraction at the completion of the hike, the group will offer another hike in a different direction to see if the wild lupines are in flower. This is one of only a few places in North America where conditions are just right for it to grow. And it attracts the very rare elphin blue butterfly.
