A memorial kickball tournament will be held in Utica on June 29 in an effort to raise awareness for stopping gun violence in the city.

The tournament will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. at Proctor Park on Culver Avenue, with a balloon vigil at the end. There will be food available, with DJ Ike Boogie providing music and entertainment.

The event is sponsored by the Plymouth Bethesda United Church. The teams in the tournament are made up of family members who have lost loved ones to gun violence, tournament officials said.

Being memorialized in the tournament is Henry “Ya Boy H” Martinez, who was shot and killed at age 29 at his home in Jacksonville, Florida in June 2017. A native of Utica, Martinez had only just recently moved to Florida when he was killed, according to the Florida Times-Union newspaper. Martinez was a rapper known as “Ya Boy H”, who released an album the year prior.
