ROME — By popular demand, Keaton & Lloyd Bookshop, 236 W. Dominick St., is launching a book club for teens, with the first meeting to be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the bookshop.

The group will discuss the fantasy novel, “Before the Coffee Gets Cold,” by Toshikazu Kawaguchi.

Before the Coffee Gets Cold was released in 2015 and is the first in a series of three installments. It tells of a café in Tokyo that allows its customers to travel back in time, as long as they return before their coffee gets cold.

“Our book club for adults has been very popular,” said Keaton & Lloyd owner Julie Whittemore. “At the same time, we’ve been asked repeatedly about opportunities for youth. We’re very excited to work with local teens and create what is essentially a youth-run club.”

While some books in the Young Adult (YA) genre may be selected, Whittemore said it’s not necessarily limited to YA.

“The first book was chosen by a teenage leader and we want participants to choose what they read,” she said. “If it’s a book designed for teens, that’s great. If not, that’s great too.”

All teens are welcome and no reservation is necessary to participate. The bookshop’s two feline mascots, Carl and Hoagy, will be available for petting during the meeting.
