CLINTON — Kirkland Art Center, 9 1/2 E. Park Row, will host its first Community Music Artist-in-Residence with two concerts on Friday, May 27.

American guitar virtuoso Aaron Larget-Caplan will visit Clinton for a residency at the KAC and The Garret on the Green.

“The community music residency was added to our artist-in-residence programming this year in memory of Ginger Parker and Tom Bell, two beloved members of our local music community,” said Nora Revenaugh, who owns The Garret on the Green and began hosting local artist residencies there in 2019. “We were particularly excited about Aaron’s pitch for a family-friendly concert — his New Lullaby Project is such a fun way to introduce classical music to young people.”

The all-ages concert, “Nights Transfigured,” begins at the bedtime-friendly hour of 4:30 p.m. Larget-Caplan will perform selections from new lullabies by composers from 10 countries. There are lullabies inspired by dreams, memories, falling asleep, a little girl, a train, poetry, and even the internet. Audience members of all ages are encouraged to wear their most comfortable pajamas, relax on a pillow on stage and enjoy the attentive peacefulness brought forth on the guitar. A composer or two will be in attendance.

The all-ages concert will be followed by a concert for adults, “Looking Bach, Listening Forward,” at 7:30 p.m. and will feature the guitar music known as “standards,” alongside new solos. Preludes and a fugue by Bach will be presented along with a tango, a lullaby re-imagined, a 13th century Japanese legend explored anew, a meditation by John Cage, a new work for guitar-plus electronics by California composer Tom Flaherty, and Larget-Caplan’s own compositions from his new album Honey Cadence.

“We are very excited to have Aaron Larget-Caplan as our Music Artist in Residence and look forward to his concert series, said KAC Executive Director David Fitzgerald.

Tickets are $5 for the children’s performance and $10 for the adult concert, and are available for purchase now at www.kacny.org/kac-live.
