Judges named for Poetry and Illustration contest

OLD FORGE — The theme of the 2019 annual Poetry and Illustration exhibit and contest at the Old Forge Library is “My Favorite.”

Participants will enter poems and artwork based on that theme.

Entry is open to all students in grades K-12 and adults throughout Herkimer, Oneida and Madison counties and the Town of Inlet. Entries will be accepted from Feb. 1-28.

Call the library at 315-369-6008 for specific details or for exhibit entry guidelines. Guidelines are also available at www.oldforgelibrary.org.

Judges for the poetry portion are two local poets, Leslie Bailey and Colin Criss. Rob and Marie Imundo, both known throughout the region for their contributions to the regional arts community will serve as judges for the illustration portion.

There are four divisions for judging: grades K-4, grades 5-8, grades 9-12, and adult. A winner from each group, from both the poetry and illustration portions, will receive a $25 prize and a certificate. Those poets and artists honored with an Honorable Mention will also receive a certificate.

Awards will be announced and presented at the opening reception on March 19 at 6 p.m. Those honored with awards will have an opportunity to read or discuss their work.

All works received for the contest will be displayed at the library from March 19 through May 31. At the close of the ceremony, cookies, snacks and punch will be served.

Funding for the Poetry and Illustration contest is provided by the Friends of the Old Forge Library and CNY Arts.
