Jim Nunn Memorial Golf Tournament to make $25,000 donation to Joe Ryan Foundation

THENDARA — The 40th annual Jim Nunn Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, Sept. 9 at Thendara Golf Club, located on Route 28 in Thendara.

Lunch is slated for 11:30 a.m. with tee off for the shotgun scramble at 12:30 p.m. There will be a steak dinner afterward with accompanying sides. The cost for the tourney is $95 and includes golf, cart, lunch and dinner.

Over the last 40 years of the tournament, the foundation has donated over $125,000 to charities in need.

This year the tourney is going to honor cousin and friend Joe Ryan, who passed away on June 27 after a short and courageous battle with Leukemia. The Jim Nunn Memorial Foundation will be donating $25,000 to the Joe Ryan Foundation on the day of the event.

The Joe Ryan Foundation’s mission statement is: “Founded in the memory of Joseph Ryan to honor his selfless and giving heart, his service to country and passion for Catholic Education. The Joseph A. Ryan Memorial fund will help students aspiring for higher catholic education and for USA veterans of war.”

Ryan and Tim Birnie started the Jim Nunn Memorial Golf Tournament in 1979 to raise money for a number of charities. The charities include Eagle Bay Volunteer Fire Department, Big Moose Ambulance, Inlet Volunteer Ambulance Service, Inlet Food Cupboard, Inlet Library, Judy Gagan Foundation at Nazareth College, SS Minnow designated driver safety Van - Town of Inlet, Camp Mark Seven - Educational and Spiritual Guidance for Deaf Children, Camp Good Days and Special Times - Helping Children with Cancer, Covenant house - provides shelter, food and immediate crisis care for homeless and runaway youth, Notre Dame High School, Rome Catholic High School, Wounded Warriors Project, Christine Madia Memorial Foundation, Alexandra Kogut Memorial Foundation and South Utica Little League.
