Jessica’s Heroes event raises funds to assist cancer patients

ONEIDA — With warm weather and spring finally here, Jessica’s Heroes kicked off their fundraising efforts to help cancer patients with an Adult Easter Egg Hunt.

“We completely sold out,” Committee Member Carrie Earl said. “I had people calling me Saturday morning asking for tickets.”

The event raised upwards of $6,500 and saw around 155 come to dance, enjoy a social drink, and find a few Easter eggs to take home.

And though the event raises money for a good cause, Earl said it’s also to get people excited for the annual Jessica’s Heroes 5K Run and Walk.

“This was a great kickoff event and got people excited [for September], whether they plan to walk, run, or build a team,” Earl said. “It helped people learn more about Jessica’s Heroes and what we do.” Among attendees, she continued, were two who had never participated in Jessica’s Heroes and planned to this year.

Earl said the Jessica’s Heroes committee wanted to thank all of its sponsors and were especially grateful for Origlio’s Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Oneida, ServiceMaster by Ross, and Marble Hill Inn in Oneida for their role in the Adult Easter Egg Hunt kickoff event.

Jessica’s Heroes 5K Run and Walk is scheduled for Sept. 24, and registration opens in June.

Jessica’s Heroes is named after Jessica Froelick, an employee of Oneida Health who lost her battle with metastatic breast cancer in 2017 — she was 34 at the time. Since then, her friends and family have championed the Jessica’s Heroes Foundation with a mission of helping those in the community while they’re undergoing cancer treatment, no matter who it is.

Those in the community undergoing treatment are encouraged to reach out to Jessica’s Heroes.
