A free and open to the public presentation on News Literacy and Evaluating Sources, given by Syracuse University Professor Thomas Boll, will be held on Saturday, March 30 at the Jervis Public Library in Rome at 2 p.m.
Boll will cover strategies to evaluate news sources and how to become “news literate” including how to look at news from any news outlet to determine whether to trust the source.
In addition to this program, the Cinema Capitol will present a new documentary “Joseph Pulitzer: Voice of the People.” The film will run on March 29 through April 4 at Cinema Capitol and will
offer a discount for those with a library card.
According to the production company, “the film… brings to life the virtually unknown American icon who spoke of “fake news” and of providing opportunities to immigrants over a hundred years ago. While he is best remembered for the prizes that bear his name, his own heroic battles in the face of grave illness and presidential ire have been forgotten, as has the artistry and game changing originality he brought to newspapers.”
