‘Jamgrass’ band performs Saturday at MWPAI

UTICA — Chicken Wire Empire plays the next Concert in the Court series concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, 310 Genesee St.

The group is a “jamgrass” band from Milwaukee that combines jam band and bluegrass music. With half of the group rooted in bluegrass and the other half steeped in jam band music, Chicken Wire Empire has become one of the most in-demand groups of the “jamgrass” trend born out of the Midwest music scene.

In 2019, they toured Germany, Austria and Switzerland as part of the ninth annual Bluegrass Jamboree and have shared the stage with renowned musicians Yonder Mountain String Band, Peter Rowan, The Travelin’ McCourys, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades and others. Chicken Wire Empire released its album “Fresh Pickles” in February 2022.

Concerts in the Court transform the Museum of Art’s Root Sculpture Court into an intimate concert venue where nationally touring acts perform amongst 20th century masterpieces by Jackson Pollock, Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keefe and others. All concerts include late-night admission to the museum and a 15-minute gallery talk by a curator at intermission.

The museum opens at 6:30 p.m. for ticket holders to explore before the show. A cash bar will be available.

Tickets are $38 for general admission, $33 for Munson-Williams members and $15 for students. They are available by calling the box office at 315-797-0055 or visiting www.mwpai.org.
